DAY-WISE ROUTE PLAN
Arrive in Manali
Upon arrival in Manali by 12 PM, check-in to your hotel and meet your co-riders. The road captain will provide a briefing on the route and daily plan, and you will receive the keys to your Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle. If any adjustments are needed, our mechanic is available to assist. Take the rest of the day to explore the scenic town of Manali and get ready for an exciting adventure ahead.
Manali to Jispa
In the morning we begin the ride on the world's highest road - the Manali-Leh highway. We head north from Manali towards the newly-constructed Atal Tunnel. This 9 Km long tunnel is the longest tunnel over 10,000 feet altitude in the world. Exiting into the Chandra valley, you notice the changing landscape, which gets more rugged as the mountains get taller. Riding along the mighty Chenab river in the valley, we arrive at Tandi, at the confluence of the Chandra and Bagha rivers, from where the Chenab begins. We continue the ride along the Bagha river, passing small villages along the way to Jispa, a quaint village nestled among majestic mountains, where we spend the night at a hotel.
Jispa to Padum
Today you ride from the lush green landscape to the stark moonscape that Ladakh is famous for. Instead of continuing along the Manali-Leh highway, we take a new route made possible by the Border Roads Organization, which crosses over Shinkun La to enter Zanskar valley from the south. Mostly consisting of dirt roads with steep inclines and declines, your riding skills and your resolve will be put to the test today as you ride on some of the most desolate and stark landscapes you've ever seen. After a day filled with adventure, we arrive at Padum, the capital of Zanskar valley, to spend the night at a hotel.
Rest in Padum
Today, we spend the day visiting the stunning Drang Drung glacier near Pensi La, a high altitude pass that separates Zanskar valley from Suru valley in the north. You may also visit some of the beautiful monasteries in Padum, or spend the day eating Seabuckthorn berries on the banks of the beautiful Zanskar river.
Padum to Kargil
Another day of adventure riding is in store for you today, as we head towards Leh via Zangla, the site of an ancient palace dating back to the 17th-century. Riding on dirt roads with some loose sand on steep inclines and declines is the name of the game today, as you cross 6 high-altitude passes before sighting tarmac towards the end of the day. We end the day's ride at Kargil, where we spend the night at a hotel.
Kargil to Srinagar
The historic road from Kargil to Srinagar is a delight to ride on, with majestic views, green villages and raging rivers. The real test of the ride, Zoji La pass at 11,575 feet, overlooks the beautiful mountains of Sonmarg on one side and the high altitude Ladakh region on the other. The constant landslides at the pass mean that we ride through mud and broken roads. Tonight, we PARTY on a houseboat in the beautiful Dal lake.
Leave from Srinagar
Today is the day to bid farewell to the Himalayas and your riding buddies and head home after a ride of a lifetime.
